Florence Lake Overlook
Florence Lake Overlook_2019 Uplift Celebrating the Sierra Nevada, Arts Benicia, Oct 12-Nov 3
The digital photograph titled " Florence Lake Overlook" is from a Figures in Nature series where I take figures from my historic photographic collection and place them in a background image from my own work. The figures in the foreground wearing knickers are from the 1930s. The background image is of Mt. Shin named after Charles Howard Shinn who was appointed forest supervisor in the pioneer days of the forest service for the Sierra National Forest from 1905-1911. At 11,013 feet high, Mt. Shin towers above Florence lake which is part of the Big Creek Hydroelectric Project, an extensive hydroelectric system in the central Sierra Nevada mountains. The Florence Lake Dam, completed in 1926, is located on the South Fork of the San Joaquin River. This digitally manipulated kitsch image is sentimentally charming and fun with an important story focus on what's over the edge just out of view.
